This book, for students with a good intermediate knowledge of English who are preparing for the Cambridge First Certificate Examination, concentrates on teaching rather than testing. The emphasis throughout the book is on systematically developing the student''s ability to handle the examination-type questions found in the last five of the twenty units in the book. Word building is approached in a structured way, as are the problems of answering multiple-choice questions. The book will also be of great value for non-examination students at this level.
The author has been careful to maintain the student''s interest and enjoyment by choosing themes and topics which are of intrinsic interest and which are inellectually stimulating as well as by using graphs, diagrams and puzzles to elicit language. Discussion-provoking photographs, some humorous, are included. Insights are given into grammatical areas which cause difficulty at this level. There are pre-course and mid-course tests, and all material has been piloted in the UK and overseas.
The Teacher''s Book contains the listening comprehension texts, answers to the exercises, and advice on how to use the book in the classroom. Special attention is paid to the needs of the non-English teacher.
