 |
Mr. Dixson graduated from Columbia University in 1931. He obtained his master''s degree at Georgetown University, then returned to Columbia for additional graduate work in speech and linguistics. At this time, some twenty years ago, he began to teach English to foreign students. He has since taught in two major universities, organized English courses here and abroad, directed extensive teaching programs. He has also written more than forty textbooks in the teaching of languages. These books are in use in many foreign countries. Millions of copies have been sold. Mr. Dixson speaks Spanish fluently. He also knows French and Russian. His wife, María Andújar Dixson, was born in Cua, educated in Spain. Their two sons are bi-lingual. Mr. Dixson is recognized today as probably the leading authority in the United States in the teaching of English as a foreign language.
