PROLOGUE
This volume features the analyses about
the global conflict unleashed throughout the month following the September 11
terrorist attacks against the United States.
Articles appear just as they were released
assuming the risk that ensuing events may alter the circumstances under which
they were written. But we still consider most of them valid.
The author embarks on the assessment of a
global phenomenon from the Argentine viewpoint.
First, the initial analysis published on
the day following the attacks, written that same evening. Second, the conflict
in the global scene, cultural aspects, the secondary role of nations,
reconsidering intelligence services and the impact of the conflict on the way
wars are fought. Next, implications for Latin America are described both in
political and economic terms and the stance of the region’s public opinion
toward support granted to the US. Then, an analysis of the so-called ‘Triple
Border’ and lastly, Argentina’s role in the new global scenario.
The purpose of this publication is to
contribute to the debate sparked by the present conflict that poses a threat of
unpredictable consequences to world peace.
