Descripción del libro usado "Lives of the Poets (Volume 1)"
Samuel Johnson (1709-84), the son of a bookseller, was born at Lichfield and educated at the Grammar School there, and at Pembroke College, Oxford. After working as a schoolmaster, he came to London with David Garrick in 1737. He published the Rambler (1750-52) and his Dictionary (1775). The Lives of the Poets was commissioned in 1777 by a group of London booksellers as a series of brief biographical prefaces to selections form English poets. The first twenty-two appeared in 1779, and the whole was completed in 1781. This volume includes the famous essay on Cowley, as well as those on Milton, Dryden, Addison and Rochester.
A pocket sized collection of biographies of English Poets with an introduction by Arthur Waugh.
